Reconnoitering CSS3 & HTML5
As we've been keeping up with the seemingly ever-changing CSS3 and HTML5 specs — we feel it a necessity to know where we're headed and what's coming next.
The second we stop learning about up-and-coming technologies in this industry, is when we become merely a follower and no longer a pioneer. 2010 brought a lot of euphoria for us at Elevate — We're really pushing the limits and broadening our horizons as far as our front-end development. In just the past couple months alone we've tackled three different user interface and user experience projects. We can't wait to show you all what we've been working on. More on that soon.
Also on the subject of progressive web standards, we've recently had an opportunity to participate in Chris Coyier's CSS-Off competition. It was a fun little side-project where we were able to use some CSS3 tools that we don't normally get to employ (rgba, text-shadow; & -webkit-transition amongst others). It was a nice reminder of what is to come, and what is coming very soon to the world of front-end development. It's exciting to see the adoption of CSS3 and HTML5 going well and to see the rapid growth and movement in our industry, namely in this area specifically. The efficiency that comes from writing code using these new technologies is seen not only in time spent in development, but in the small footprint and lightning fast download speed.
Also, with the enrollment of HTML5 video by YouTube and Vimeo, it is clear - HTML5 is hitting mainstream. With simple and straightforward guides such as Dive Into HTML5 and tools like Modernizr, to help with compatibility in certain browsers that happen to be the scum of the earth, you too can be awesome. Go forth and build.
